  • Lady footballer

The football pitch next to the flat in Fano hosts 5-a-side tournaments all the time. The men play in the evening, but the girls are relegated to the hottest hours of the day. I had to speak to the coach to get permission to photograph close ups of the girls. This led to a bit…

  • Protection from the elements

In Italy the challenges facing fishermen are slightly different to the challenges facing us in Norway. Instead of rain gear, fleeces, woolly hats and waders they have – a parasol. They also fish in a different way, throwing bait into the sea and waiting for the fish to come.

  • The curious boy

One of the benefits of working for Canon, albeit in a non photographic rôle is that you get access to good lenses at a reasonable price. The 70-200 lens I have is from the L series of lenses, and is the same one used by journalists etc. With this lens mounted, you all of a…

  • It must be pleasant to wash

Especially if the soap is as pretty as this. In cases like this it’s a pity there’s no way to convey smell on the screen:)

  • Beach life

The last two posts have been of the bad weather side of Italy. Fortunately those days were a rarity. Beach life is good!

  • Cloud city

The thunderstorm from last post retreated out to sea later in the evening. I used the “bulb” mode to keep the shutter open for as long as I could, in this case 1 minute 30 seconds.

  • My favourite spot…

…right where the action is. In Fano during our holiday there was a spectacular thunderstorm. The rain was lashing down, and I had to stand in the bedroom of our apartment and hope for a good shot of the lightning. Luckily this one came out really well. I used a 30 second exposure for time…

  • Squirrel squirrel on the wall…or feeding tray

  • St. Hans

The St. Hans holiday (or midsummer eve) is named after St. John the Baptist. Quite why I don’t know, but it’s the longest day of the year. At this time of year the sky never really goes dark. This photo taken late last Friday.

  • Glowing hill

I went in to Årdal last night again, to go fishing. No fish (again) but the dog came along and had a great time swimming in the river and generally being neurotic every time I went down to fish. The sunset was pretty spectacular, and with big mountains and hills you get some cool effects…

  • Human vs. animal

It’s a bit of an unfair fight really, spiderwebs don’t really stand a chance when we decide to play badminton where they’ve made their homes.

  • Opening night

The Salmon season has started here, on the first of June to be exact. True to tradition we were in Årdal ready for the midnight start, and at 00:02, Nic caught the first salmon of the year. Happy fishing!
